SalonCon Next Weekend

After much nagging from many of my beloved fans (you know who you are, ya lovable scamps), I made a last ditch effort to get my sorry ass into the vendor's room for next weekend's SalonCon... which panned out. Yes lords and ladies (or in my case hooligans and harlots) Grendel's Den Design Studio will be attending SalonCon, spooking the joint up.

For those of you not in the know, SalonCon is a gathering of folks who do what we oldsters call 'Steampunk'. Lots of you young'ns like to call it 'Neo-Victorian' or yeah, Steampunk. Right. In any case it's a pretty swank affair at a pretty swank price (25 shells if you nab them online by tomorrow, 35 bucks at the door). Check out the website for the shindig's schedule, which include a performance from Abeny Park.

See you there!

The Halloween Spectacle by Lesley Hershman

Every kid wants to wear an awesome Halloween costume and nine-year-old Jake Hornsby is no exception. This Halloween, he wants to wear the astronaut suit hanging in the window of Emmet’s Costume Shop. When his parents refuse to give him the money to buy it, Jake’s afraid he’ll have to spend another Halloween in one of his mother’s crazy homemade costumes.

Then when a neighbor gives him a mysterious bag of seeds and promises they’ll grow into an amazing sight on October 31st, Jake thinks he’s found a way to earn the money for the astronaut suit. He plants the seeds and sells tickets to his Halloween garden.

But although Jake carefully follows the strange instructions required to care for the seeds, nothing seems to be happening and Halloween is drawing near. Will Jake’s Halloween spectacle turn out to be a Halloween disaster?

Halloween is Lesley Hershman’s favorite holiday! She always dresses up as a witch, and her tall pointed hat always scares her dogs. She lives near Chicago with her husband, two daughters and their two cats and three Labrador Retrievers.

Please visit www.thehalloweenspectacle.com for a special Halloween sale!  The Halloween Spectacle is only $6.50 (includes shipping and handling.)

San Antonio Mom Revolutionizes Halloween

GlowMan Costumes is changing the landscape of Halloween with five, fun and original glow stick costume designs.  These revolutionary glow stick costumes are taking the Halloween Industry by storm and promise to be the hottest costume of the 2008 season.  Great for individual, group or family applications, GlowMan Costumes come to life under the cover of darkness and can be seen from blocks away.  GlowMan, GlowGirl, GlowBot, GloWitch, and GlowPrincess are available in adult and children’s sizes at Target.com, PartyAmerica.com as well as other on-line and in-store retailers.
Determined to create a comfortable, safe and unique Halloween Costume with a WOW Factor, Leslie Lopez created illuminated stick figure costumes for her family by attaching glow sticks to clothing.   The response from friends, family and neighbors was overwhelming.  “That’s so cool!”  “Where can I get one of those?” and “I’m going to be a Glow Stick person next year!” were only a few of the comments the family received.  It seemed they could not get from one house to the next without people stopping to take pictures, give high fives or congratulate them for their originality.  Her children swelled with pride and gave the best comment of the night,  “This is the best Halloween ever!”
Shortly after Halloween was over, Lopez kept replaying the positive reaction she and her family received that night.  She kept asking herself, “How can I make it easier and faster?”  The answer, GlowMan Costumes!  In November 2007, Leslie and her partners realized that there were no similar products on the market.  They saw this as a prime opportunity to offer consumers a fun, original costume that would create an unforgettable Halloween experience.

Now everyone can be join in on the fun.  GlowMan Costumes makes it easy to be a part of the glow stick costume craze with a simple and re-usable glow stick costume!

Each costume includes a black hooded jumpsuit with pre-sewn connectors and a pack of custom sized glow sticks. To illuminate the costume, the wearer simply activates the glow sticks and inserts them through the pre-sewn connectors to create one of five GlowMan designs.  Within minutes, the costume design is revealed and ready to wear.   Under the cover of darkness, GlowMan Costumes come to life, looking like a life size animated character!  Each activation lasts approximately 10-12 hours.   Glow stick refill packs are also available for purchase. Suggested retail prices for GlowMan Costumes start at $29.99.

Visit www.glowmancostumes.com to view GlowMan’s five popular designs and be sure to watch the GlowMan dance video.  It looks like animation, but they’re real dancers wearing GlowMan Costumes! Check out the “store” tab for a list of online and in store retailers.

Largest Online Costume Retailer and Party Retailer merge

BUYSEASONS’ parent company, Liberty Media Corporation successfully completed the acquisition of Celebrate Express today. Celebrate Express will now be combined with BUYSEASONS, Inc. “This is a great day for our employees, our vendors and our customers,” commented Jalem Getz, BUYSEASONS’ CEO. “We have spent the last two months working with and getting to know Celebrate Express’ employees, and I would like to officially welcome them into the BUYSEASONS family and thank them for their dedication and hard work while we went through the acquisition process. Now that the transaction is complete we will begin working as a unified team to reenergize our fantastic retail brands”.

BUYSEASONS’ retail brand BuyCostumes.com has led the online market for costumes and Halloween products since 1999. Birthday Express has had similar success in the children’s birthday party supplies market since its inception in 1994, which BUYSEASONS intends to leverage. “We look forward to getting back to the key value proposition established by Mike and Jan Jewell, the founders of Celebrate Express; helping busy parents celebrate the special moments in their children’s lives,” Mr. Getz added.

New Halloween Music & FX CD Release from Departed Studios

The CD consists of 24 tracks with the true Halloween enthusiast in mind. Perfect for the twisted backdrop to a commercial Haunted House event, or simply to ensure Trick-or-Treaters will remember a house for life.

These tracks are the culmination of direct feedback from a select group of both end-user “yard haunters” and commercial Haunts using our previous release “It’s Under the Stairs”. Because of it’s very limited distribution, some key tracks from that release are featured on TEEMING. The 1st track “Serious Young Demon” merges traditional horror string music, with a backdrop of psychotic sounds, random dramatic violin hits, and hellish reversed demons.

Departed Studios’ chief sound designer's experience in production and soundscape ranges from work in Network TV and Cable programs to custom sound design for many top (Grammy winning) recording artists in the music industry. Recorded and mastered with both digital and vintage analog gear, TEEMING features wide psycho-acoustic stereo imaging and deep rich bass.

TEEMING is available at DepartedStudios.com, and is distributed among many fine Halloween retailers on and offline.
